Mission
Our mission is to create dignified digital work that improves livelihoods while shaping AI systems that reflect the people who build them.
Journey so far
Karya started as a research project at Microsoft Research
Karya published groundbreaking research on crowdsourced work in low-income communities (CHI 2019, LREC 2020) and spun out of Microsoft Research.
Developed "Earn & Learn"Â strategy to build pathways out of poverty
Karya launched Platform as a Service, expanded to Ethiopia and Kenya, secured multiple contracts with Google DeepMind and Microsoft, presented its model to Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai, and surpassed 50,000 workers with over 52 million paid digital tasks.
Karya lauches Karya Institute to explore future of work in AI
